Utility Models
Utility Model is a three-dimensional object with a defined shape and form, which is capable of giving a solution to a technical problem and that is novel and industrially applicable.
Greek Utility Models are regulated by Greek Patent Law No. 1733/1987, the full title of which is “Technology Transfer, inventions and technological innovations”. The law was published in the government’s official gazette FEK 171/A/22.09.1987 and has been amended by provisions of different recent laws.
Greek UM Applications (GUMs) are filed with the Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation (OBI).
The following is required for filing a UM Application: description with the aim of the object, its use and advantages, claims, abstract, drawings of the object and the assignment of rights of the inventor of the object. The duration of the right obtained is 7 years. The holder has the exclusive right to produce, use, sell and in general to exploit the three-dimensional object invention in Greece and exclude any third party from any exploitation of the same.
The official fee of OBI for filing a Greek Utility Model application is €50. The publication fee is €100. No search fee applies. The OBI issues grants the Utility Model certificate with the examination of the formalities only.
Utility Models are protected for 7 years, renewable every year, starting from the 3rd year. The official fee for the 3rd year is €20, for the 4th year the official fee is €50, for the 5th year the official fee is €80, for the 6th year the official fee is €90 and for the 7th year the official fee is €100.
